National Merit

Finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program who apply to VCU by Nov. 1 and notify the National Merit Scholarship Corp. by May 31 that VCU is their first choice are eligible for a VCU Presidential Scholarship.

  • Presidential Scholarship – The four-year Presidential Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees up to $16,000 per year (maximum amount of $8,000 per semester), as well as room and board. Room allowance is equal to the cost of a room in the Honors College residence hall; board is equivalent to the 250 Block plus $175 Dining Dollars meal plan.
  • Merit-based scholarships cover in-state costs only.

Additional Scholarship Opportunities

Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) offers a variety of scholarships for first-year students, including university-level scholarships for outstanding applicants who apply by November 1 for the fall semester. Out-of-state freshmen potentially qualify for a four-year, merit-based scholarship of at least $10,000.

  • Presidential Scholarship – The four-year Presidential Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees up to $16,000 per year (maximum amount of $8,000 per semester), as well as room and board. Room allowance is equal to the cost of a room in the Honors College residence hall; board is equivalent to the 250 Block plus $175 Dining Dollars meal plan. 
  • Provost Scholarship – The four-year Provost Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees up to $16,000 per year (maximum amount of $8,000 per semester) for an estimated total value of $64,000.
  • Deans’ Scholarship – The four-year Deans’ Scholarship covers the cost of tuition and fees up to $8,000 per year (maximum amount of $4,000 per semester). The estimated total value of this four-year award is approximately $32,000.
