National Merit

Northern Arizona University offers the National Scholars Awards to National Merit Semifinalists, Finalists, and Scholars, including National Hispanic Scholars and those recognized by College Board National Recognition Programs. These awards cover 100% of tuition (excluding fees and other expenses) for the first two years, with a $1,000 scholarship provided annually for students actively enrolled in the Honors curriculum. Recipients also gain automatic entry into NAU Honors College. The awards cannot be combined with other tuition scholarships.

  • Arizona Residents
    • Lumberjack Scholars Award: Covers 100 percent of NAU Flagstaff Mountain Campus tuition (fall and spring); does not cover fees or other expenses. Requires a 3.75-4.0 unweighted core high school GPA. For Arizona residents only.
    • President’s Award: $9,000 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.5-3.74 unweighted core high school GPA. For Arizona residents only.
    • Dean’s with Distinction Award: $6,500 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.4-3.49 unweighted core high school GPA. For Arizona residents only.
    • Dean’s Award: $5,000 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.0-3.39 unweighted core high school GPA. For Arizona residents only.
  • Western Undergraduate Exchange (WUE)
    • WUE Excellence: $8,500 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.75-4.0 unweighted core high school GPA.
    • WUE Gold: $8,000 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.5-3.74 unweighted core high school GPA.
    • WUE Blue: $7,000 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.0-3.49 unweighted core high school GPA.
  • Out of State (non-WUE)
    • President’s Excellence Award: $11,000 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.5-4.0 unweighted core high school GPA. For non-residents only (Non-WUE eligible).
    • President’s Award: $9,000 per academic year (fall and spring). Requires a 3.0-3.49 unweighted high school core GPA. For non-residents only (Non-WUE eligible).
